As this seminal documentary points out: part of the solution to the climate catastrophe is “right under our feet.”
Do not pass go unless you’ve watched ‘Kiss the Ground’. Add to my Netflix list now.
Good news: agriculture and our food system are on the brink of positive change.
We’ll do what we can to tip the scale. Here we go…
TLD-Watch: Kiss The Ground
Main Point:
Healthy soil can help heal the planet
Good soil can “balance our climate, replenish water supplies, and feed the world”.
Main Action:
No soil should be left uncovered - ever
Uncovered soil is depleted of nutrients and water - it’s harmful to basically everything and everyone
Make your soil bountiful
Here is your easy 1, 2, 3 for bountiful soil:
1: NOURISH
- Compost -
Turn sand into soil by feeding it compost. Mmmm, compost and water - this is soil nourishment.
You can buy compost and start composting yourself. It’s easy if you have a little space.
2: PROTECT
- Mulch -
Lock in soil goodness, reduce weeds and stop ground water from evaporating.
Mulch by covering bare soil with (natural) materials like bark, wood chips or straw. This is soil protection, and it pays off.

3: GROW
- Garden -
Grow, grow, grow. Grow different things. Grow flowers, plants or trees. Grow an edible forest. Even weeds are better than bare soil.
This is your reward for healthy soil.
Don’t be daunted
There are easy ways of gardening like Charles Dowding’s ‘No Dig’. As he says, it all starts with the soil.
Watch his intro video to get inspired.
While there is lots to learn, the basics are simple. Come on, it’s one way to better living.
Start small and before long you might be growing an edible forest - we are and we’re loving it.
Let’s shake on it
In Kiss the Ground, Woody Harrelson makes us a deal which we extend to you - we won’t give up on earth, if you don’t. Happy growing.
This is it
